About The Wharf Theatres

The Wharf Theatres are the home of Sydney Theatre Company, the resident company at Pier 4/5 on Hickson Road in the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct. The heritage timber cargo wharf dates from the early 1920s and was converted into theatres, rehearsal rooms and workshops for STC in 1984. It holds two flexible theatres, Wharf 1 Theatre (up to 420 seats) and Wharf 2 Theatre (up to 160 seats), and reopened in 2021 after a major renewal.

Getting there

Bus: Routes 324 and 325 stop outside the Wharf Theatres on Hickson Road.

Train: Barangaroo Metro station is about 900 metres along Hickson Road. Circular Quay and Wynyard stations are about a 15-minute walk.

Car: On-street parking on Hickson Road is limited. STC recommends Bond One Car Park (entry via 26 Hickson Road) or Barangaroo Reserve Car Park (entry via 5 Towns Place).

Accessibility

Three lifts along the outside apron of The Wharf give level access from the ground. Wharf 1 Theatre is on Level 2 and is reached most directly by the lift at the end of the wharf, with a level entrance through Door 3 for row A. Wharf 2 Theatre is on Level 1, nearest the mid-wharf lift. Accessible toilets are at mid-wharf and at the end of the wharf, and an FM assistive listening system is available in both theatres. There is a drop-off point on Hickson Road, and staff can meet patrons with a wheelchair. Book access seating through the Box Office on (02) 9250 1777, as these seats cannot be booked online.
