About The Grand Electric

The Grand Electric is an intimate cabaret, circus and comedy venue at 199 Cleveland Street, Surry Hills, operated by Strut & Fret. It occupies a 1930s building built for the NSW branch of the Australian Railway Union, used for theatre since Performance Space arrived in the 1980s and later home to Giant Dwarf. Opened in January 2023, it has a Parisian-style courtyard bar with murals by Max Elbourne.

Getting there

Train: Redfern Station is about a seven-minute walk, and Central Station (exit 6) about nine minutes.

Light rail: Central Chalmers Street stop is about a 10-minute walk and Surry Hills stop about 12 minutes.

Car: Street parking is limited. The nearest is on Pitt Street (two-hour limit until 10pm) and George Street (unrestricted after 5pm and on weekends). Taxis and rideshare are best dropped off around the corner on Pitt Street.

Accessibility

The Grand Electric is not fully accessible. The theatre has level access from the street, but because of the building’s age and its heritage conservation area there are no accessible or ambulant toilets on site. Accessible parking bays are at 103–109 George Street and 10 Pitt Street. Contact the venue before booking so staff can advise on your particular needs.

Access arrangements can change, so please confirm with the venue before you go.

Where to sit

The Grand Electric sells seats by section, and the sections can vary from show to show. Ringside VIP is reserved seating up close to the performers, with Premium behind it and General Admission behind that. Seats in Premium and General Admission aren't allocated, so arrive together to sit together. Champagne Tables for two have a raised view, and the Mezzanine is upstairs at the back of the theatre; both are up stairs with no lift, while every other section is wheelchair accessible.

Layouts change from show to show, so check the seating map when you book.
