About Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace
Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace is an independent Art Deco cinema and performing arts venue on Military Road, Cremorne, on Sydney’s lower north shore. It opened as The Orpheum in 1935 and, after years as an arcade and gym, was restored by Mike Walsh and reopened in 1987 with a Wurlitzer organ. Its six screens show new releases, retro films and special events alongside live music and comedy.
Getting there
Bus: Any bus from Wynyard Stand A runs to Cremorne Junction. Routes 140, 143 and 144 run from Chatswood and St Leonards stations, and the 143 and 144 from Manly.
Ferry: Take a ferry from Circular Quay to Cremorne Point, then the 225 bus up to Military Road at Spofforth Street.
Car: The unmetered council car park on Parraween Street is behind the cinema, with more parking in Cremorne Town Centre opposite. Building works on Parraween Street are reducing parking, so arrive early.
Accessibility
Accessible parking is available in the Parraween Street car park, on Langley Street and in Cremorne Town Centre, and the venue asks patrons with access needs to contact it before visiting on (02) 9908 4344. Sydney Film Festival’s access guide reports that all cinemas except Cinema 3 are wheelchair accessible via inclinators (175 kg limit, not used after the session starts), with hearing loops and accessible toilets nearby.
Access arrangements can change, so please confirm with the venue before you go.
