About Her Majesty's Theatre Melbourne

Her Majesty's Theatre is a heritage-listed theatre on Exhibition Street in Melbourne's CBD, presenting musicals, opera, ballet, plays and concerts. It opened as the Alexandra Theatre on 1 October 1886 and was renamed Her Majesty's in 1900. After a fire in 1929 the interior was rebuilt in Art Deco style in 1934. The theatre seats about 1,700 and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.

Getting there

Train: Parliament Station is about 400 metres away, roughly a six-minute walk.

Tram: Bourke Street trams, including route 96, stop at Russell Street/Bourke Street (stop 7), a few minutes' walk away.

Car: The theatre offers discounted flat-rate parking at First Parking, 59 Lonsdale Street, booked online in advance. Parkade at 34-60 Little Collins Street is an alternative, and there are two disabled bays at 168 Exhibition Street.

Accessibility

Wheelchair access is through the left-most doors of the main entrance on Exhibition Street, and an accessible toilet (with baby change) is in the vestibule off the Stalls foyer. The heritage building has no lift, so the Dress Circle and Grand Circle are reached only by the Grand Staircase; patrons with limited mobility should book Stalls seats. Wheelchair positions, aisle seats and special assistance should be booked in advance through Ticketek on (03) 9662 9571. Hearing assistance is provided through the Listen EVERYWHERE app, with loan devices available.

Access arrangements can change, so please confirm with the venue before you go.

Where to sit

Her Majesty's has three levels: the Stalls on the ground floor, the Dress Circle above and the Grand Circle at the top. The Dress Circle sits low and fairly close to the stage, so from its front rows you look across at the show rather than down on it.

Layouts change from show to show, so check the seating map when you book.
