About Athenaeum Theatre

The Athenaeum Theatre is a heritage-listed theatre at 188 Collins Street in Melbourne's East End Theatre District. It belongs to the Melbourne Athenaeum, founded in 1839 and one of Victoria's oldest public institutions, and the current theatre was built inside the old Athenaeum Hall in 1924. It presents theatre, comedy and music, and is a principal venue for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Melbourne Opera.

Getting there

Tram: Collins Street stop 7 is served by routes 11, 12, 48 and 109.

Train: Town Hall Station is a short walk away, across Collins Street near the Regent Theatre, and Flinders Street Station is also within walking distance.

Car: The venue recommends Wilson Parking Flinders Gate on Flinders Lane, which can be pre-booked for evenings, or the Council House Car Park in Royal Lane off Little Collins Street.

Accessibility

A small number of accessible seats are available in the Stalls; book them by calling the box office on 03 9650 1500 or by using the venue's accessible booking request form, which also covers Companion Card, wheelchair, aisle and no-stairs requests. There is no lift to the Dress Circle or Upper Circle, and Athenaeum 2 is reached by a vintage lift that only fits standard-width wheelchairs. Step-free entry is through the right-hand doors on Collins Street, with an accessible toilet off the ground-floor foyer.

Access arrangements can change, so please confirm with the venue before you go.
