About Princess Theatre Launceston
The Princess Theatre is a heritage-listed proscenium arch theatre at 57 Brisbane Street, Launceston, built in 1911 by vaudeville entrepreneur Marino Lucas and run as a cinema until the City of Launceston acquired it in 1970. Managed by Theatre North and seating 939, it has staged plays, opera, ballet, concerts, comedy and dance eisteddfods. The theatre is closed for a council redevelopment and is expected to reopen in early 2028.
Getting there
Bus: The theatre is within a five-minute walk of the bus interchanges on St John Street.
Car: The City of Launceston's Paterson Street East multi-storey car park is nearby, and there are two 24/7 car parks on Earl Street. Limited on-street parking is available in Brisbane, George and York streets and Yorktown Square, and a taxi rank operates around the corner in George Street.
Accessibility
Theatre North lists wheelchair access at the Princess Theatre, with accessible seating for wheelchair users and carers in the stalls.
