About Canberra Theatre Centre

Canberra Theatre Centre is the city’s central performing-arts complex, opened in 1965. It includes the 1,239-seat Canberra Theatre and the more intimate 614-seat Playhouse, which presents comedy, drama, music and dance across three seating levels.

Getting there

Public transport: Use Transport Canberra’s journey planner for bus and light rail services to the city; the Centre is in Civic Square on London Circuit.

Car: Constitution Place underground car park, entered from Constitution Avenue, is the closest car park. City Hill and Canberra Centre car parks are other nearby options.

Accessibility

Contact Canberra Ticketing before booking to request wheelchair seating, avoid stairs or arrange mobility assistance; online booking cannot accommodate access needs. The Playhouse has lift access to its first balcony but not its second. Accessible permit parking is available at City Hill and Hobart Place, with an accessible drop-off in Lyric Lane via Constitution Avenue.

Access arrangements can change, so please confirm with the venue before you go.

Where to sit

Canberra Theatre Centre has two main theatres. The Canberra Theatre seats 1,239 in one raked tier with a central crossover aisle, so there's no circle or balcony; that count includes seats over the orchestra pit, which aren't used when a show needs the pit. The Playhouse seats 614 in a semicircular room over three levels: the stalls and two balconies. The Courtyard Studio is a small studio space for up to about 92.

Layouts change from show to show, so check the seating map when you book.
