About Siegfried & Roy: The Unauthorised Opera - Sydney Festival 2025

The neon lights of Las Vegas are calling. Join us in January for the wild rise and dramatic fall of magic’s dazzling duo, Siegfried and Roy.

Discover how two boys raised in war-torn Germany became the highest-paid magic act Vegas had seen. More than just business partners, Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn were inseparable: best friends, partners and muses. But the legendary showmen were hurtling towards tragedy – their beloved Mantacore was a tiger, after all.

Featuring larger-than-life characters, powerhouse vocals, live magic and playful humour, this epic new opera has plenty of tricks up its bedazzled sleeves.

Siegfried & Roy: The Unauthorised Opera is brought to life by New York-trained composer and co-librettist Luke Di Somma (The Unruly Tourists) and maverick director and co-librettist Constantine Costi (Il Tabarro, Sydney Festival 2024), with costumes from Oscar-winning designer Tim Chappel (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert).

Stepping into the spotlight is Helpmann Award-winning tenor Kanen Breen (Opera Australia’s Hamlet, The Marriage of Figaro) as tiger-wrangling Roy, and acclaimed baritone Christopher Tonkin (Faust, La Bohème) as illusionist Siegfried.

This deliciously fun night out takes the capital ‘O’ out of ‘opera’ with a fascinating take on a true tale.

Sink your teeth into it.
