Where English wit and Australian larrikinism converge, English Eccentrics offers a whimsical glimpse into a gallery of thirty-nine eccentric characters from English society.

This production champions Victorian Opera’s new shining stars as part of our ongoing VO Emerges series, our commitment to fostering new talent. Come and be thoroughly entertained by an array of characters that continually one-up the last in peculiarity, in a revolving door of  aristocrats, tradesmen, maids and clergy, exploring the idiosyncrasies that lie within them.

Edith Sitwell could easily have counted herself among these famous eccentrics, and there’s an unmistakable touch of eccentricity in Malcolm Williamson as well. Williamson’s music brims with pastiche, ranging from Mozart to Gershwin, and even with a twist of rumba.
